Mouse in Win98SE

  K.H 19:37 13 Mar 2004

Hi folks (again)

Using Windows 98 Second Edition, the mouse pointer isn't as smooth as it was on XP, its a Microsoft Intelli Point Optical, with all the latest drivers form the Microsoft website. It's hard to explain, but if i was to move the mouse left in a straight line, it would make small jibbers up and down. It's essential that i get it work smooth (and straight) as i use Flash MX and other presentation/animation programs.

Go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>MOUSE and try changing the settings. Also go to the DEVICE MANAGER to see if there are any problems with the mouse. Hope this helps.

Well i have already tried the control panel remedy, all looks fine in the device manager.

Are there any incompatability issues to do with the mouse and Win98 that the manual/manufacturers website mention? The only other thing I can think of is if you have a modem there could be an IRQ conflict between the mouse & modem.

There is no compatibility problems, other wise they wouldn't have the Win98 Drivers on thier site. And yes, i do have a modem, Speedtouch 330 USB Broadband modem.

What about closing all your programs down and processes in the background (if it lets you) as a certain program/process may be upsetting the mouse? Try a reboot as well.

Cleaning the mouse? I'm clutching at straws now.

I think i might try reinstalling the drivers, and see how that goes.

Any luck?

Well i started this thread on the 13.3.04 and i'll put it this way - i've had WinXP since about 15.3.04. lol. Yes, XP seemed to have solved the problem, thanks anyway.

Best regards
