Mouse pointer not moving

  steve 10:23 31 Jan 2003

When I boot up my PC, every so often the mouse pointer doesn't work when the XP welcome screen is displayed. The computer hasnt crashed though, as the keyboard can be used to log on and perform tasks. Is this a problem in the BIOS or something else?

What sort of mouse is it? If it's with a battery, try new batteries, or have you cleaned it lately.

I agree with ulrich.

If it is a cordless mouse, the its worth changing the batteries. Also, I suggest a really good clean of the mouse, whatever type it is.

The mouse isn't battery operated and is clean. The fault is intermittent

Could be a fault with the mouse. I had to have my microsoft cordless mouse replaced with a similar fault.

Can you borrow another mouse to try?.

Is this a USB mouse? If so, what make and model is your motherboard?

May be a broken wire, inside near mouse I have repaired mine on several occasions you have to cut the mouse of the resolder all the wire one by one, they are all different colours so you cannot get wrong. Easiest way is try a new mouse you can get from £2
