Batteries perhaps!.

You could also try pressing the synchronising buttons on the bottom of the mouse/receiver (if the have them).

My mouse does that occasionally.

What OS are you running? I was told it was something to do with the way Vista loads drivers.

I've got a USB M/S wireless mouse and very occasionally it isn't recognised at boot. Luckily as I use a laptop I can use the touchpad to safely shutdown & restart, then the mouse works fine.

Very annoying, but part of a very long list of Vista annoyances...

could this be a registry item, run once ect

Using two PCs with one keyboard and mouse is probably the problem - you normally need to designate a dedicated channel each for the keyboard and the mouse.

Could be that the PCs are too close - try changing/reversing the channels on one PC.

Or use a wired keyboard and mouse on one of the PCs.

When I think about it, you may not be able to change the channels on one PC as it will affect the other PC - which is where, as I said, the problem is most likely arising.

By the way if the batteries go on either the wireless keyboard or mouse, you will have to reset the correct channels configuration - there is usually a set sequence.
