Mount a Drive

What does the expression mount a drive mean?

I have only ever had to mount a drive in Linux a long time ago, basically it means telling the computer were a drive is via a set of commands. This is done automatically these days on most systems including Linux, although its still possible to do if you get a difficult drive the computer doesn't recognise.
