Motion JPEG problems

Have just purchased Fuji S5500 Digital camera.
The video files are in Motion JPEG format.
They will play properly through a link from camera to television but are extremely jerky with sound interuption when played on my PC using any of the media players (Quicktime, WMP 10,etc.)
Have used GSPOT to check codecs and this reported two suitable codecs installed. Have DirectX 9.0c. Have thought about upgrading graphics driver but this looks like a bit of minefield although it may be my only option left.

Any thoughts please

PC has
AMD 2600+ XP
512 Mb 2700 memory
NVIDIA GEFORCE4 MX 440 + AGP8X
