This might sound stupid. But this motherboard for example....

Asus P5Q motherboard - 1600FSB-DDR2 1200x4 - Intel P45

Would it work with DDR3 memory. For example...

4GB Corsair Memory DDR3 1333 (2 x 2gb)

Do motherboards with ddr2 in the name support ddr3 ram/memory?

I ask this as cougar extreme only seem to have ddr2 motherboards, yet sell ddr3 ram.

Im confused.

you cant put a ddr3 stick in a ddr2 slot as there is a small piece of plastic in the slot to stop you, some motherboards can use ddr3 or ddr2 but they have two sets of slots one for each type of memory.

Thank you Citadel.

I agree to citadel. As far as motherboards with dual slots of memory are concerned, they can support different types of memory slots. But for this you will have to check it out yourself or you will have to consult a laptop repair expert for this.
