Running Vista Home Premium for word processing, scanning, downloading from camera but mainly using Skype to keep in touch with family back in England. Would it benefit from more RAM?

1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache

894 Megabytes Installed Memory
Slot 'A0' is Empty

Yes,your system is sharing some of your current 1GB for graphics. Another 1GB would definitely help.

Would I be better fitting 1 stick of 1GB rather than 2 x 512MB?

If your motherboard allows it, fit 1GB in addition to the two chips you already have.

Some mobos are very picky about unmatched chips, differing sizes and the order in which they are set.

I suggest visit the Crucial web site for them to match the type of RAM they sell you.

If you still have a motherboard manual look there for any size matching and placement restrictions

I'd use a matched pair of 512mb sticks, this will be quicker than a single 1gb stick if your MB utilises dual channel memory

As it's dual core, you will probably find they need to be installed in pairs.

ie 2 x 512, or 2x 1GB

Going for 2x1 GB because they are fairly cheap at the moment on Crucial.
