monitor for a student- advice please

  canard 15:18 13 Feb 2003

Please will you be kind enough to advise me what 15 inch monitor to get for my student grandchild which combines reliability with reasonable price.
I shall be very grateful for your advice.

Don't get a 15" would be my first bit of advice.
It doesn't cost much more for a 17" and it makes an awfult lot of difference. CTX and LG are both good brands at a reasonable price. Its often not worth going for the very cheapest monitor but you would be on safe ground with those brands.

Yes 17 inch is much better but the crt takes up too much space in this case.

Wonderful value but too big or the allotted space.

If you grandchild is studying computing / programing etc, then you are left with only two choices A BIG monitor 17" or 19" or the other more sensible option will be a panel @ 15". These little beasties easily manage the higher resolutions required for the programming aspects. The amount of deskspace will also make him a very happy student!!!! Amongst student's flat panel's seem the way to go. And with prices starting at £169.00 quite reasonable also.

Change the 19" to 17"

Buy Micromart - £1.60 publiched today and look for a local computer fair.

Get a re-conditioned monitor for a very reasonable amount

Not for anything specialised, simply the necessary workhorse. I hesitate about the nice panel monitors as I wonder if they stand up to moving around and slaphappy treatment.

The only time my panel moves is when I run the duster over it.....

PcWorld have 15" CRT's from 79.99
