Monitor problems?

A Sony CPD-200E , crt type (old but good), what happens intermittently is that the dislpay disappears. The picture just fades away over 3 seconds, I've checked the power settings, etc and they seem OK. Any opinions other than "it's faulty":).

When it fades, does it return to normal shortly after, or do you have to switch off and leave it a while?

I would say you need a New Monitor, its not worth Mending for the Price you can get a LCD. Although I prefer Crt Monitors other than the room the take up, and they are Heavy, well mine are

I switch it off for a short while and sometimes it's OK, but sometimes it's not:) It is getting worse and what I have found out is that the heaters on the tube are going out, thus no display! PS I prefer CRT as well!

If you know a TV he may be able to fix it. Do not go inside as High Volts are there when its not connected. Enough for to KILL

Yes I know 240v mains and 1000's on the tube! Its gone off 2 times just doing this. Cheers

Today it hasn't gone off, yet!

Components have deteriorated, most likely high power resister gone high, so it out of speck

Cheers. What has happened today is that the display has faded to black twice, but has settled down for the last 5 hours. If it continues I'll look for a used one in the local papers, because it will be cheaper than getting a repair done!
