Monitor or Card Problem

I have feint lines about 6mm apart moving up my screen, only seen on white mainly.
My 4200 nVidia card is only 6 months old, but the monitor HP M70 is over 2 yrs old.
This only started a fortnight ago.
All the latest updates are installed.
XP Home with AMD 2200+
It gets worse if I use the higher refresh rates, that I could use a month ago.
Now using 1024x768 16bit colour at 72 fps.
I dont want to buy a monitor and find its still showing this fault.
Help appreciated

I posted this query an hour ago, I saw it in the listings, Came back to this site and its gone.
Whoever took it - I want it back please.
If returned no further action will be taken against the perpetrator.

this monitor can use 1024x768 @ 85hz and a max of 1280x1024 @60hz.

check all the cables are firmly inserted,degauss the screen and maybe update the graphics card drivers.

make sure there is no power supplies,microwave ovens near the screen etc.

The only way to prove that it's the system or the monitor is to try another monitor - swap monitors with a friend.

I have used the built in de-gausser, although that is for Moire patterns caused by magnetism, not the described fault.
I use a seperate room for computing and Music creation.
No item has been moved lately to cause this fault.
The temperature is around 38 deg C for the case, and 41 Deg C for CPU.
I have ensured that the case is free of dust.
If I could borrow another Monitor then I would have done that first.
The driver is the new nVidia driver that now suits all the cards for the past 2 yrs.
I hoped someone would know the cause of the fault.
Is it an interlacing problem.
I read the same fault can occur on a TV after transfering video back to VHS with some anologue cards.
No video card is installed at present.

I very much doubt that you are running the monitor in interlaced mode.

It is simply not possible to tell you from a distance what fault will produce the exact symptoms you see, in most cases. We can only point you to what actions to take to try and prove what part is faulty - I don't see what more can be done if you can't prove whether it's your system of your monitor (I expect it will be the monitor in this case). So take it in for repair and tell them what the symptom is, or buy a new one.
