Monitor disruption

  yahwob 08:46 15 Aug 2006

The other night my monitor suddenly blipped and the screen turned into a multi colured pattern of vertical lines and blobs. Compltely unusable, you can just about see the desktop underneath the lines so it's all still there. I thought the monitor must of died but I have plugged another one in and it's exactly the same on that one.

So in theroy some other part of the pc has died? I've reintalled windows( not easy when you can barely read the screen under the distored picture!) and the graphics drivers but still the same, it looked like the vertical hold has gone but worse, if you get the picture :)

Can't be a virus as I've reinstalled but I'm guessing the graphics card has died?

Any ideas

I also think that this is a graphics card problem. Before condemning it, try unplugging it, wiping the contacts and refitting it.

Certainly graphics card, but it could simply have come loose. Make sure its seated firmly in its socket.

It might also be your PSU.
