Monitor Asleep

  Big Trev 20:05 10 Oct 2007

I have a PC running XP and a wide screen monitor. Sometimes (often) when I boot up the monitor will go black after a few seconds. Turning the monitor off and back on again cures it, but a few seconds later it goes black again.
Reboot again and it's okay.
What might be causing this and what's the cure?

Hi, usually, if there is a problem with the computer/graphic card/cable, the monitor will display a 'No signal' error. The fact that you merely have a black screen suggests you may have a defective monitor. Try using a different monitor to either confirm or eliminate the monitor as the cause of the problem.

CRT or LCD monitor?

LCD Monitor

Hi, LCD thanks. As in my previous post, if possible, try a substitute monitor to confirm or eliminate as the cause.

Also check that Power Management is not configured to turn the monitor off after too short a period, if you use the feature.
