At the end of a session, by clicking on the icon in the task bar and selecting disconnect, the icon disappears, but the line remains connected, until I unplug the cable from the modem.

Has it only just recently started happening; and does your connection speed seem slower than it used to be ?

The same can happen to me. In my case it happens when I have gone from link to link over different sites without returning going offline. At that point I offer the clumsy club-hammer-approach and pull the plug!

Just guessing, but have probably run short on memory which is ample for all other things.

For you scooper and AndyJ, things do tend to slow up before I reach that stage and so I take the hint, exit and go online again.
