HAve you dislodged the modem? Or its cable?

I haven't done anything to the modem yet.

If everything else in your computer is working properly, and you're sure that you haven't accidentally dislodged the modem when you removed the memory module, then you propably have either a corrupted modem driver, or the modem itself is faulty. First check that your modem isn't set to pulse dialling. If it isn't, then I suggest that you try uninstalling and reinstalling the modem driver, and if that doesn't work then it may be worth trying a new modem. You can get quite a good software modem for under £10 click here.
