Modem Replacement

  carryduff 14:01 24 Sep 2006

Hi, my dial up modem download speeds are very slow: 32Kbps. Would it help to install a new one and if so which would be the best? My old one is an INTEL(R)536EP. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply.

Almost certainly not but you can if you wish. Dial up speed has more to do with the technology (or rather lack of it). Are you able to get Broadband?

They don't slow down with age, unlike us humans.

there are two types of modem, one is software driven which also uses a fair bit of cpu power and the other is hardware which is more reliable and consistant.

for advice and good info, I prefered to use "US Robotics" but the choice is best v92 v90/ 56k but 56k is again a theoretical maximum and depends on how good your telephone line service is.

carryduff, you didn't say whether you could get broadband, suggest you try ot broadband at your local library, you could become addicted:-)
