Hi,Have recently retired to Lanzarote and was connected, slowly,to the local telefonica network via the old fashioned land line being taken out of my home phone and plugged in my laptop. All well until i bought a new Advent Quantum Q200 one.Typed in all the old details, passwords etc and then.............nothing,except error 777 or 797,no modem present etc.Can still connect via my Vodafone UK dongle but thats a minimum of 10 Euros a day.Anybody got any idea's pls?,Thanks

Daft question, but does the Advent have a built in modem? If not, dial-up dongles are cheap as chips .

Looked at the spec click here, and it is not fitted with a modem.

Thanks, not cheap as chips here though, plusa minimum 18 month contract. The only modem showing is a Vodafone one for the dongle.

But it sounds as though you're on dial up, so no contrsct, surely?

Modem is hardware so has to be bought. They are only a tenner, but you need to check the socket for the phone line is compatible with the plug on yours (ie, is it the same as a UK one). An example click here

you cannot download a modem, plus how can you without connecting you pc. you need to buy a external dial-up modem.
check out some of these click here
