A friend has a Diamond external modem, that plugs into the serial port, for some time it has worked fine on windows XP, but now when he tries to connect to the internet, windows says that a modem is not connected,

If i go into control panel/modems & query the modem it says a modem is not connected but the lights on the modem flash.

I have tried re-installing the modem and rebooting numerous times, in windows troubleshooter it says I may need a new serial cable or new modem, before I go out and buy a new one is there anything else I could try.

Thanks

Sturmey, the first thing I would suggest is try another cable as this is the cheaper of the two options. It looks like you have tried everything else.

Yeah I'll try the new cable option, I wish PC world was open 24hours!

Thanks recap
