My parent's PC (running Win98) is no longer able to successfully dial in to their ISP. I am assured that they have not made any changes or installed new software.
When trying to connect, I can hear the dial tone and the number being dialed. However, as soon as the connection is made something goes wrong and the sound becomes just a continuous tone. I have checked the number & it is correct (and active if I dial it manually).
So, I plan to try another ISP number to see if the problem is the same - if so it seems to me to be a hardware problem with the modem.
Anyone have experience of similar? Should I try anything else before changing the modem?
