mobo/processor combo

Hi there
I am looking to start my first build and i would like some advice as to what is a good, mid priced motherboard and processor combo. I don't mind if it is AMD or Pentium as long as it would be good enough to run music creating/editing software such as cubase without any struggling and that they are fairly up to date.
I have some knowledge of how to build a system but i really need a good starting point. Any useful links would be welcome as well.
Any ideas??
Thanks, Darren.

Go for an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Best bang per buck ATM.

Cheapest is the E4300 which can be had for just over £70, and prices thereafter increase with performance.

In all honesty a E4300 will be fine for your needs.

Choose a socket 775 motherboard with the features you require, and don't pay extra for bells & whistles you don't need
