missing windows management instrumentation softwar

When trying to use system information I am told these files are either missing or somewhere else. How do I find them?

Start, Run, type in

and click OK.

Make sure the following are running and set to start automatically:

• Event Log
• Windows Management Instrumentation
• Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

I'm not sure what you mean by "system information". Is this what you're after?

Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>System

VoG and I posted simultaneously. He is much more likely to have the answer you want.

Thanks VoG for the quick reply
All what you suggested are set to auto start. I tried services.msc but this didn't help because it asked me to insert my winXP disc. This was rejected because since win xp was first installed I have upgraded to service pack 2. so the message was the windows installed is a newer version. Tried installing the SP2 upgrade disc but this was also rejected. Computer is running OK once I get it booted up (usually after about 3 attempts) so I will have to bear with it for now.
