Missing Speaker icon

  galatic door 13:50 30 Jan 2003

Hi all,
The speaker icon in my sys tray is missing.
How do i get it back?
Don't tell me to go to multimedia and put a tick in the box there because the box is shaded out and i can't tick it.
Any ideas anybody??

First thing I would try would be goto add/remover programs, windows setup, multimedia, details, volume control.

If it IS installed, I would uninstall it, and reinstall it. If it IS NOT installed, then that is the source of your problem.

Is your soundcard actually working? Try re-installing the drivers for that.

Did you go the way that Pesala advised, by add/remove programs, if so this should have cured the prob. Don't use control panel/multimedia.

i have tried both ways and it still has not reappeared in the system tray.
Any more ideas??

in Control Panel/Multimedia/Audio tab if my sound card is not
selected as the Preferred Playback device then the option for Show Volume
control in the taskbar is greyed out. You may have to select the correct
Playback device to get the option back.

have you Installed RealPlayer G2 to listen to web radio>?
