32bit ~ 64bit?

My guess is 32 bit. The Video has probably got 512 Mb reserved for it which added to 2.87 equals roughly 3.5 Gb and there`s the clue.....

My guess is that you have a 32 bit version of Win 7 and Microsoft have limited the maximum amount of RAM that it can address on 32 bit systems to 4 Gb. From that you can subtract the amount of RAM that your graphics card and your system will use and your system. However 2.87 seems low to me, most 32 bit systems show around 3.2 to 3.5Gb.

So check how much is reserved for video which could make up the difference between our two guesses!

Thanks; That might be it. It's a 32 bit Toshiba laptop with a celeron dual-core t1600 @ 1.66 GHz processer. It does seem that its a little low.

will leave thread open a while

How can I see how much is reserved ?

  woodchip 11:03 29 Jun 2011

No guess, Windows is using the rest unless its a 32bit OS system, where it cannot see it all plus if its onboard Graphics you also lose it there

  woodchip 11:05 29 Jun 2011

If its a Laptop, then the Onboard Graphics is using the ram or some of it

EARLR - Post back your make and model - someone will find it for you.
