Boot into Windows.......

Click the "Start" button and select "Run"

Type in "sfc /scannow" (without quotation marks)
and press Enter... You will need your Windows Installation disk for this.

NOTE: there is a space after "sfc" but before "/", which MUST be included in this run command.

This is exactly what I am doing, but when I shut down windows and then re-boot and run sfc /scannow again, it again asks for the disc as the files are not there. It seems as though they are not being saved. I should add that the system has just had to have the hard drive wiped and re-installed by a third party.

It is asking for the disk as it wants to copy the files from the disk onto the system. So if there is a file missing, it will be on the disk or if a file is corrupt, it can be overwritten.

It will ALWAYS ask for the Windows XP installation disk, when running this command.
