What PC?

the other 7G may be a hidden restore partition.

P.C is Dell, could the missing Gbs be in NTFS which fdisk cant recognise?

on full that takes 12% of drive for starters then the size of swop file and massive operating system etc

IF a DELL then yes I suspect it is a hidden partition with the recovery files to resetit back to factory settngs.

You should have a recovery disk to activated the hidden partition.

Search the web for recovery disks for your particular model of DELL.

Solution was to install Win 98 on available 11Gbs then install partition magic then migrate the 7Gbs of unallocated space to present 11Gbs giving me full use of all H.D.D space, wipe H.D.D and reinstall X.P

thanks to all replies
