Minor niggle in Control Panel

XP(Home)SP2 - the first icon in my Control Panel appears to be a 'page' with a turned-up corner. It has been with me for some time, but I would like to get rid of it - it does not appear to do anything, a right-click on it shows the options to Open or Create Shortcut - clicking on it normally does nothing at all. I know there is a way to get rid of it, but I have forgotten how. It is not in any way critical, just a slight annoyance.

Can anyone please remind me how to get rid of it?

TIA .....

I get the 'envelope' some times on control panel start-up (milliseconds) before the icons appear. Could this be a corrupt programme?.

Would be interesting to see if anyone as a solution.

file type. Have u uninstalled a prog or something recently, or disabled something in ur win setup?

Thanks for your input - the icon will not delete. I make sure I have little or no left-overs from any programs, using the paid for version of RegClean which is a comprehensive cleaner. Tried all ways to delete it, but it persists. I did have it some time ago and did get rid of it, but my old head is not as clear as it used to be :-) so I have forgotten how I did it then.

Yes, I have uninstalled and re-installed Adobe Acrobat8, but I am sure that is not the problem - as I mentioned above, I do have and regularly use, RegClean (not the free version). In any case the icon has been there for some time, only just now decided to try to remove it, again!

I also regularly use CCleaner.

But thanks any for the input.

Look in c:\windows\system32\ for files ending .cpl, some are easily matched with their use, others are a bit cryptic - look at TweakUI's Control Panel page. You could try hiding it with TweakUI, if it doesn't appear to be a .cpl file

I thought the majority of items in the ctrl panel were 'win' related, with the exception of a couple.
Have u checked Add/Remove Progs, Add/Remove 'win' components?
Maybe putting all components back in could resolve this, then deselect them again once it's all sorted out?

Following a combination of Marg7 and brundle's inputs I discovered that, although the icon was un-named in Control Panel, it was in fact a relic of a long-since un-used Bluetooth application. I deleted it from System32 folder and it is no longer
shown in Control Panel.

Thank you All again for your inputs.

Resolved - again with Thanks :-))

NB - have made new System Restore Point!
