Hi
I have a desk top which I purchased in 2002.
I keep it updated in case my lap top throws a funny
Trying to reduce the load on the desk top(it is now very slow)
I am considering un installing Avast Zone alarm Malwarebytes-anti malware & Spyware blasterThese are also installed on mt lap top

And replacing them with Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials

Would I be resonably safe?

Ihave broadband &
Xpwindows home edition
Thank you
Gel

You're only as safe as the dodgy websites you may or may not visit.

I use Avast AV, SpywareBlaster, Windows Defender and Windows firewall.

I don't visit dodgy sites and have remained uninfected for more years than I can remember.

The fact that your PC is "now very slow" is probably nothing to do with the security software you have loaded. Do you regularly carry out PC housekeeping with something like CCleaner?

Thank you Clapton is God.
Yes I do have a clean up using CCleaner, but I will take your advice and look else where for the slowness

The slowness could be due to several reasons. A commonly overlooked one is shrinking hard drive space. Don't forget to use the Disk Cleanup utility to delete older System Restore files as well (instructions at click here).

That's been true for me too. I've only been using XP's built-in firewall for the last 4-5 years with no problems whatsoever. G
