Microsoft Updates - slight confusion

I have seen on this forum that recently some people have been having problems with M/S updates. I am a bit naive about these things and I tend to let the automatic update procedure do its stuff. However, with the recent problems in mind, I would be grateful for members' advice as to whether I should proceed with updating the following:-

1) Security update-M/S. NET framework v1.0 SP3 (KB930494).
2) Security update-M/S. NET framework v1.1 SP1 (KB928366).
3) Windows XP (KB936357).
4) Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830).

Thanks in advance.

I deleted all the iNET Framework entries in Add/Remove Programs and then reinstalled iNET Framework versions 2 and 3, plus the security updates.

If you normally download the Malicious Software Removal Tool I would continue to do so.

Stuartli, could you tell me where to find iNET Framework versions 2 & 3, please?

I find the MS 'help' pages very confusing!!

BTW, I found that some software specifically requires 1.1 and not 2 or 3 (it wouldn't run with 2 or 3 and specifically asked for 1.1.). I don't know the ins and outs of .NET framework so can't explain this.
