Microsoft update woe again!

  Wrabitt 20:02 15 Oct 2008

Yes another update Tuesday 15 Oct 2008 and again I couldnt get access to the net!
Is there a way of stopping these morons from downloading this rubbish every month without asking permission!
Fed up again.

Under Windows update settings you can:
1 Install updates automatically
2 Download updates but you choose when to install them
3 Check for updates but you choose whether to download and install
4 Never check for updates.

Pick the one which suits you.

I'll stop 'em; but it makes my mind up my next PC won't be a PC!

Choose "Notify Me of New Updates but do not Install them" from Security Center; when new updates are available, you can open the panel that lists the updates by clicking on the yellow icon.

Select Custom and choose which updates you require to be installed; click OK and you will be asked if you wish to be notified again of the updates not selected. Tick the box to indicate No.

I use the exact same method has Stuartli mentions, I find it is the best option IMO has it gives you the control to download/update only what you want.

For example:
I occasionally get an update for my NVidia Geforce 8800GT, but I see no point in updating my graphics card driver has it works OK as it is, "If it aint broke don't try and fix it comes to mind".
