Which version of Outlook?

You could try Start, Run and type in

Outlook.exe /safe

and click OK.

If that gets it running, if you have Outlook 2000 or later you could try Detect and REpair from the Help menu.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like the database files (which Outlook uses to store all your data) has become corrutped. In case it is an operating file that is corrupt, in which case a re-installation of outlook should cure, I would back up all the data and index files that Outlook uses and copy back after re-installation. See if that works?
Also try using the 'sfc /scannow' comand, this should reinstate DLL's and root files used by the operating system, which Outlook that comes with XP, is more intergrated than the version that comes with Office, prior to Office XP.

Hopefully, someone out there has the magic answer for you.

It may be worth trying the System file checker (but dont hold your breath)

Put your windows CD into the CD ROM and hold the shift key (the one with arrow pointing up, just above the Ctrl key on the left of your keyboard). Holding shift for a few seconds will stop the Windows CD from auto running, but the drive will still spin up to read the disk then spin back down again. Once it has spun down you can release the shift key.

Now click Start/All Programs/Accessories and choose Command Prompt. Type in

sfc /scannow

and hit enter. This will check and replace any damaged system files.

or updating to office sp1 or 2 click here

Where you recieving any errors b4 or is there any other info in the error message?
