OnePlus 5T review: Hands-on
Recently purchased a copy of Office (Student Teacher Edition from PC World) and it won't allow me to download updates automatically:
'The Office Update site is unable to check for updates on this computer. This may be happening because of one of the following reasons:
You do not have administrative privileges for this computer.
There is a network problem and the detection catalog used by the Office Update site failed to download. Go back to the Downloads home page and try running detection again.
Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from previously applied Office updates are missing from the \Windows\Installer hidden directory on your computer. MSP files are stored on your computer after update installation completes because they need to be referenced for future update operations. If the files are missing you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may also be unable to uninstall Office products as a result of the same problem. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for assistance.
You installed Office updates in the past and then upgraded from Windows Installer version 1.0 to Windows Installer version 1.1. For more information see the KB article Windows Installer May Prompt for Install Source if Unavailable.'
As to the first one, I do!
As to the second, there must have been a network problem for almost a week now then.
As to the third: if that's the case surely everyone would quailfy. Who have every single update for their WP software?? Besides which, the new copy uninstalled the old stuff when it was installing.
I've fiddled around with the possibility - the usual near incomprehensible jargon that only a superhacker might understand - no joy.
I can download them manually but how are you to know which ones you have and which ones you haven't? There's a Service Pack 1 for office for example. How would I know whether I had it or not? Will it prompt me that I do when I try to install it?
Any insights appreciated.
Tried to just now but got the message: 'Wrong OS or OS version for application' when i tried to install it and on the download page it explains:
'Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000 supports Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 or later and Windows 2000. Windows XP contains Windows Installer 2.0 and therefore can't be installed or upgraded by this redistributable.'
Which I sort of understand!
Still no joy!
For G** sake! There are umpteen possible solutions to the problem I've been trying but not one of the damn things works. Why isn't it as simple as this Microsoft??: I bought a kosher copy of Office 2003 Student Teacher Edition from a large PC Store in the UK. I installed it, I activated it, I tried to run the update option and the flipping thing WILL NOT LET ME DO IT.
At one point I thought I had solved the problem when I started to get the message 'ident.cab' and something about unstrusted publisher of the software (it was Microsoft's own site I was trying to download it from!)
but that was probably as a result of trying the possible solutions 1 through 5, missed out 6 and tried 7 listed here:
Has anyone else had this problem and solved it?
Sigh...life is too short Microsoft.
And that direct link doesn't work!
