Title should be Microsoft.Net Framework update failure.

Update is still showing in task bar and keeps returning even when I update.

Please see my contribution to this thread @13:44 and 15:12 :click here

It worked for me and the updates are now fully installed with no subsequent popups in the task bar.

check that you have 'office source engine', 'windows installer' and 'background intelligent transfer service' running by clicking on start, run and then type 'services.msc' and hit enter...double click each one and start it if not already running...then try to update again..for me its usually one of the above not running.

"Update is still showing in task bar and keeps returning even when I update"

This is because it is only going through the motions, but not actually updating. It has put something in there, which is blocking any further attempt on your part. Firt you'll have to uninstall them, bringing your PC back to how it was before you got into this vicious circle.

You could try a 'System Restore' to before the original, attempted instal. Then click here to do an 'Express' search, followed by a 'Manual' install of what it tells you is needed for your PC.

If that doesn't work, then I suggest you click here and follow cocteau4's advice.

I meant cocteau48 not cocteau4

Attempts at a manual update certainly did not work in my case.

However according to this thread click here it appears that reinstalling .NET Framework 3.5 over the top of the existing version and opting for repair rather than install also may cure the problem.
