I have a normal microphone and when i plug it into the mic socket on the lap top it will not pick up any thing, do i have to do some thing in the settings ?

You should not have to do anything in settings, apart from ensuring that the mic is not muted, check Sound settings in Control Panel. Have you tried the mic on a different lappie or desktop? Make sure you are fitting it in the correct socket of course.

Or if you have messenger,Tools.Audio and Video set up, And try it on there,Make sure that it is switched on if you have one of those type of Mic's.

Double click on the Volume icon in the Notification bar>Options>Advanced Properties>from both Playback and Recording sections ensure that the Mike boxes are ticked.

Then ensure that after OK-ing, that neither has been Muted or the Volume sliders set too low in the main Volume Control panel (Playback and Recording).
