Hii have a desktop PC case which houses a Std ATX motherboard. If i upgrade the mobo with a micro ATX type, are the hole fixings compatible in the case? desktop case circa 1999.
Most cases allow you to move the standoffs to accommodate various size MB's.Should be OK if its the same form factor, but can you check before you buy?
You would also need to update the PSU to an mATX version and, unlike an ATX PSU, maximum wattages are much lower at 270w to 300w (most mATX mobos have a maximum of three PCI slots). In fact, unless you don't need the extra PCI slots and/or a decent graphics card, choosing an mATX motherboard would be regarded (by me at the very least) as a downgrade...:-)You can read the Intel specifications history of form factors such as mATX at:click hereor Intel's ATX specifications:click here
many thanks. The links explain everything perfectly.happy new year.
