on startup recently I have been gettind a white on black message saying one of my disks needs checking for consistencey the file system is NTFS and although it says I can stop the check I can`t
I`d like to get rid of this as it appears every time I start up

Did you let it check the disc but are still getting it at start up.Maybe go into my computer.right click C now.And tick both boxes. The next time you reboot the computer it should run and repair any problems.

Maybe someone will come up with a better way of fixing it.So I would wait for further replies.
