Mesh Matrix will not take extra memory

My mesh has three slots for upgrades and had 256 in when new. It will take 1536Mb of PC133SDram.
I have two new crucial 512MB chips and the PC works fine with either of them in any slot. With both in windows XP will not boot up. Windows updates are all installed. Any ideas?
Motherboard is ASUS A7V PC133/VC133 200MHz FSB AGP Pro/4X Socket A.

...a matter of trial and error. Try different sticks in different slots. Sometimes slot 0 must have the highest(er) capacity stick.
Try without the original stick in - just the new ones.
Another thought: Did Crucial know EXACTLY what MB the mem was for before supplying it?

I have tried every combination of slots with combinations of the new and old chips-I even wrote down the combinations so that I did it thoroughly. More than one memory chip being used stops windows booting in any combination, Revert to one and it is OK. I went on line and got crucial to tell me which memory so it is the correct one.
