Merged partiton - lost data

  onthebog 18:21 12 Feb 2008

I have a 160GB external HDD on which I created a 30GB partition. I no longer needed the smaller partition so I decided to merge it with the large one only to find that all my back-ups (from the 130GB partition) have gone and the disk reads 160GB of free space. I used PowerQuest Partition Magic 8.0 - I was under the impression that a merge operation preserved data. Is there a way of reversing this operation? Or am I in the running for "Dick of the Week"?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it is to confirm the latter statement.

Thanks in advance folks

Not at all,we all make mistakes but hopefully we can learn from them.

When you merge partitions one will be expanded to include the second. The contents of the second partition are added as a folder inside the first partition.

This is whats supposed to happen so not sure what went wrong...

You could try "undo last change" it might work..
