Some memory sticks have a write protect switch or reset button on them, worth a look.

Can you tell us the make and model of your stick please?

Hi, with stick inserted, right-click in My Computer and then on the Stick's icon, and look at Properties>Tools you should then see a Check-disk icon, try that if you cannot see anything about Protection.

its a arc atapi usb pen.
there is no switch on it.
it is 256mb but in properties it comes up as only 16mb
cant find anything with protection on.
it wont do a checkdisc.

Hmmm, right-click on stick's icon again in My Computer and then left-click on Sharing and Security, and then on the Sharing tab, and then on "if you know what you are doing etc ..." (even if you don't know what you are doing) see if any of the boxes there are ticked, if so untick them, then click on OK and close the window. Though I would be surprised if any of the boxes are ticked - so this is only a 'shot-in-the-dark'. If they are not ticked, just close the window without doing anything else.

PS - in Properties how much space is shown as Used space and Free space?
