Memory Stick not recognised properly

I have a PNY attache 1gb memory stick but I have a problem. It is only recognised properly on some computers. On some it will work fine. But on others it works in these stages:

1. PC recognises it and plays sound.
2. PC shows it in My Computer.
3. PC looses connection to it after a few seconds.

This happens continually until I unplug it from the PC. Any ideas why?

Thanks.

It is a pity, but I guess you may have to bin it.
It is likely to be a poor mechanical assembly or damaged contacts on the pen itself.

There is just the possibility that you are using a non powered hub and the hub is running out of oomph to work yet another device.

It is unlikely.

If the contacts are damaged, some computer ports may grip and transmit data better than others.

You could try alternative ports temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

If not and you have suitably stiff fine wire, or even a needle to raise the contacts a weeny bit in the pen it has to be worth trying.

Don't overdo it!
Distorted contacts, or loose broken ones, can cause a short circuit and there is a surprising amount of current available to start a mini fire.

Will have a go. Any recommendations for a new memory stick?

Many program block flash drives that may have viruses on them, policies can disable use of them on that computer, and drivers may not be up to date on some computers. have it repair or checked out first to confirm diemmess's suggestion.
