MEMORY -spead or capacity

right, well how do I start pretty simple, I have 1 stick of 512Mb 400MHz ram, I also have left over 512Mb of 266MHz ram now DO i install the other 512Mb and sacrifice the speed to 266MHz or do I just stick with one stick of that 400MHz bad boy.

Like all things - it depends.

The issue here is how loaded your memory is at present. 512 Mb is a reasonable amount but can soon get eaten up by memory hungry applications.

Your slower memory is still many times faster than paging to disk.

I suggest you use task manager to monitor your memory use for a while. If it is not heavily used then leave alone.
