Hi ,i have been posting lots about my pc locking up when i play games lately after i checked drivers and everything else i decided it was g card over heating so i got a new one yesterday now i can play games without the lockups
but i can only run my pc at 100/100 in bios or it locks i have 1800xp chip and pc133 ram so should be able to run at 133/133 but it wont have it so i was wondering if i need to upgrade my ram cos even tho it 133 it still slower than the rest of system, any thoughts?
P.s,it will run at 133/133 if i dont play games but not when i do.

Bizarre, I would try changing the CAS latency settings to see if a slower setting (higher latency number) improves stability.

What motherboard do you have? You are right that your memory is slower than the rest of your system, a new motherboard and 256Mb PC2100 would only set you back about £80, worth thinking about.

Hi, i have a K7s5A ecs revision 1.0A mobo i know it not the best mobo but the one i could afford at the time. Was thinking about 256 pc2100 ddr ram from crucial for 24.66 not thought about another mobo just yet dont like the idea of takeing everything off 1 and putting it on other not that confident lol.Plus i wouldnt know what mobo to get lol.

Go into the Advanced Setup page of your BIOS and have a look at the SDR/DDR CAS Latency setting. What is it on? If it is on 2 or SPD, change it to 3 and try again with 133Mhz.

Just changed that from SPD too 3 the others
SDR/DDR RAS Active time is set to 6T
SDR/DDR RAS prechamge Time set too 4T
but i left them what does chamgeing the other do?
it running at full speed now but it does till i run games then it locks.

I can't find the reference for those settings in your motherboard manual. Best leave them alone, unless you want to experiment (change one at a time, test for stability, and put back if no luck).

Is your CPU speed set to 133Mhz?

What graphics card have you installed? Make sure you have the latest drivers and DirectX8.1 (don't use 9 unless your card supports it).

If it is an nVidia card that asks for Turbo mode when you install the drivers, re-install them and put them into normal mode.

No luck still locked up while i was browsing this site was set at 133/133 at the time i have tried it at 100/133 and it still locks up only thing it wont lock up on is 100/100 so im guessing my ram is knackered as i tried all the settings and if cpu was knackered it wouldnt even run.

Was a Geforce 4 440mx card with latest drivers and DX 8.1
