Memory parity error

An old Apricot MS540 running Win 95 brings up the error message 'Memory Parity Error Detected - System Halted' on boot up. Any idea what this means?

Surpringly other things than memory parity problems can also cause this - I've had a faulty modem cause it, for instance! So also try taking out any plug-in cards.

A good old fashioned virus is called PARITY !!

I've had it myself from a floppy disk.

I suggest try a virus scanner I use F-Prot, which will run from DOS. Download the files and the latest definititions, which amount to 3Mb. Start the PC from a CLEAN floppy disk and run the virus scanner.

How many memory sticks you got?

If you have two, try removing one and re-booting. Do this with both and you'll eliminate the possibility of it being a memory module.
