Integral video on the motherboard is one common use for "missing" RAM.

I'd agree with Diemmess - if you have onboard graphics of 128mb, then that is where the missing 128mb has gone.

Right click on my computer and see what it says under properties.

Could we have somr more information please?

Like is the RAM 1x512 or 2x256 sticks....and what graphics card have you got in the AGP slot. What is the make/model of the pc?

The fact that it is 128MB that goes "missing" is highly indicative of video use,but could also be that one bank of 128MB is faulty and not being recognised by the PC as it warms up with use.

Try running Memtest click here

This version runs under Windows....start it running when the pc is just switched on and let it run for a couple of hours or until you are sure it will be reporting 384MB then stop it and check the results.......you will see if any of the memory is giving errors or not.

Might also be a good idea to physically remove and reinsert the RAM sticks to make sure theys are properly seated in their slots and that the electrical contacts along their lower edges are clean.
