what's their life expectancy? I have been passing the same PNY 256mb card between nokia mobiles and the computer for over a year. How long are they expected to last before ya get corrupt data and so on....

It works fine now but I am looking for a reason to buy a bigger one, let's hope the other half doesn't read this.

Memory cards, like all electronic devices, have an estimated lifespan. This is usually called MTBF (Mean Time between Failures). An example of the MTBF for various SanDisk products are as follows: Secure Digital and miniSecure Digital cards: 1,000,000 hours MultiMedia Card: 1,000,000 hours CompactFlash: 1,000,000 hours
SanDisk also sells "Industrial Grade" versions of these flash cards that have a longer lifespan.

I realise it's SanDisk not PNY.

Nothing for you to worry about...:-)

my phones on for about 12hrs per day.

1000000 / 12 = 83333.333 days

83333.333 days / 365 = 228.31 years.

According to my sums the card will out live us all.

good to know.

7DayShop currently offers a number of memory cards at very low prices and with free p and p in its Clearance and Specials sections.

excellent.

I bought a 256MB SD card from 7Dayshop about nine months ago at a very good price.

Even so it was £19.94 including p and p...:-)

By the way, apart from the encrypted difference from an MMC card, an SD card is also a little faster.

Even so, I don't notice that much difference using an SD or MMC card in either my digital camera or memory card reader/writer.

You've also answered your own question as I hinted about being nothing to worry about...:-)

SD is slightly fatter than MMC it won't fit a Nokia 6230i, it has to fit under the battery.
