I’ve just run a Crucial check on my memory, which tells me I have 8Gb of DDR PC2700 in slot one and 1Gb of DDR PC3200 in slot two. However, according to SIW (System Information for Windows), I have 1Gb in slot one and 512 Mb in slot two. For the record, my mobo only has a memory capacity of 2,024 Mb. I’d greatly appreciate any observations on this.

As PC2700 only comes in 4Gb max sticks and your mobo only supports 2Gb. I'd say you have what SIW says you have.

Is it a tower, take them out and check the codes.

Thanks Dick Tattor. I will do as you suggest. However, I've just also looked at what Belarc Advisor has to say. It coincides with Crucial and yet it doesn't. It says: 1472 Megabytes Installed. Memory Slot 'A0' has 8192 MB and Slot 'A1' has 1024 MB.
Something is quite clearly wrong for such inconsistencies exist.

i've had conflicting reports before where the crucial scan was wrong.
