Hi there,

Have the above computer, about 5 years old, have damaged pins on the processor and has now stopped working.

Can someone advise me:

1) Is it possible to still buy (either new or 2nd hand) a socket 478 processor that will be compatible with the motherboard?

2) If i change the motherboard and fit a new processor, what will be compatible and improve the performance of my pc? Currently/was 1.67 ghz.

Thanks in advance

1. eBay may be the only source at present apart from pot luck at a computer fair.

2. Which replacement? - depends entirely on your motherboard.
Its manual (if you still have it) will define the CPUs that it can take.

2a. If you replace the motherboard and CPU the field is wide open to your choice......
..... until you think about old RAM specifications which after 5 years will probably be incompatible with a new mobo.
