MediaPlayer not playing DVDs that it played before

  Extremeweazle 15:22 01 Feb 2009

I have a new PC running Vista Home and have been playing DVDs with no problem. Suddenly MediaPlayer is not playing DVDs that used to play. If I go into the drive icon via computer and try to manually play the disc, media player says it cannot play the disc as the file extension is not supported. I don't understand this as the disc played ok yesterday!

Hope someone can help.

This can happen if you have installed some other player recently, or the codec its looking for has been corrupted.

go to windows website and search for media player codec. Download the latest codecs and install them. This should solve the problem for you.

Thing is (should have mentioned this before) this pc is not connected to the internet, so how can the codec(??) have become corrupted? Also, if I need to download something, can someone do that for me and put it on a disc? Sorry to sound dim.

The issue was caused by hardware failure. Luckily the machine was till under guarantee.
