I realise this is probably a really stupid question but what's the difference between a media box and an external hard drive ?

As I understand it, a Media box is designed to turn a normal TV into a Smart TV, such as the Apple TV or Phillips boxes so you can stream such things as Netflix etc.

An external hard drive is similar to the drive(s) in your PC and acts like any drive on a PC. Often used to back up data or to keep images of the operating system of a PC.
