ME to Vista

I have several documents and forms on my very old PB PC in word. When I try to transfer them onto my new Laptop running Vista they appear as gobbledegook.I have works on my laptop but it has word processor and not the old Word. Any suggestions please as to how I can transfer them as some are quite important.

What extension are the files (ie: .doc) If they are Word 6 a converter is available from:

If they are old works files, you will need to install Works on your new PC to read them.

If they are Wordstar or older, post back...I think I may have a conversion prog. somewhere.

Thanks. I have Works on this Laptop with Vista and have managed to transfer a database document with no problems, it's the forms in word doc that won't transfer legibly.

You will need to install MS Word, Word will read works docs but Works can not read Word docs.

Thank you, it's a pain. Would downloading open office help as the word disc I have is years old and came with my elderly desk top.

Yes - Open Office is your solution.
