McAfee Rootkit Detective Problems

  Mad Mick 18:21 27 Jul 2007

McAfee rootkit detective shows up some items in the registry that Sophos anti root kit does not.

Rootkit detective shows 10 hidden registry keys/values referring to entries in HKLM\Software\Microsoft Protected Storage System Provider\Local Machine\Data. Could these be false positives as Sophos does not identify these as problems.

Thanks VoG™ for your advice. The AVG programme also gave a negative report so it looks as if the McAfee report may well be a false positive. Once again thanks for the help.

I will contact McAfee and see what they say.

Sophos AntiRootKit gives the odd negative - clicking on it reveals what is being referred to, but you can usually work out whether it's OK or not.

A particular one, in my case, is my computer's Work name.

Thank you Stuartli. It is only McAfee that is showing any positives. The other two do not show any positives. Your input is appreciated.
