MBR corrupted

  ex-wirecutter 11:11 13 Apr 2008

On two occasions my MBR has failed and I have had to use recovery console fixboot to repair, so obviously the hard drive is on the blink .I am sure I have seen somewhere a way of making a floppy drive copy of the MBR just enough to get XP running , anyone help ?

You may be better trying to make an Ultimate Boot Disk. There was an article on it in last months (May) PCA I think.

If memory serves me right, you can make the disk on any PC running XP and it will allow you to get into your HDDs provided they are running.

Details of UBD are click here and the download click here

If you just want the MBR data I think this is what you mean click here or this click here

For those of you that dont know the MBR is the first sector of a hard disk in a PC. It contains the Partition Table.
